the Pleasantville Fire Department reported on Oct. 17 that the bronze bell had been stolen. The Fire Department reported that the bell was last known to be located in the rear of the building in an alleyway between the police department. It had been a fixture at the firehouse since the department was formed in the early 1900s.

On Monday, Oct. 23, a search warrant was executed and portions of the bell were recovered.

There were two arrests made as a result of the investigation. John Jordan II, 61, of Pleasantville was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief. Joseph Redd, 44, Pleasantville, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief.

Both Jordan and Redd were released on summonses pending a court hearing.

The portion of the bell that was already removed was returned by an unidentified citizen to the Pleasantville Fire Department.

"This case could not have been solved without the outstanding cooperation and tips on part of the many residents within the City of Pleasantville," police said.
